– German Contemporary Artist Ms. Sibylle Schwarz Expressed Sympathy on China’s Earthquake.

April 20th, 13, a deadly earthquake strikes China's Sichuan province. Ms. Sibylle Schwarz, a famous German artist, living in Stuttgart, Germany, extended her condolences to those affected by the earthquake in Sichuan, China through her artistic language. At her home in Stuttgart, Ms. Schwarz did over forty drawings, including “Two Sisters Crying”, “A Face of Pains”, and “When Birds Stop Singing” that conveyed her thoughts and prayers going out to the people of China.
Sibylle Schwarz posted on Facebook: “Long time ago, when we moved into a new home, I found two diaries in my basement, one from a priest and another one from a woman, she is a doctor, who lived and worked there (in China). Today I took one of these unfinished diaries and start drawing, after Prof. Weihong sent me pictures of China earthquake...full of pain.” (PIC 2 AND PIC3)
Ms. Sibylle Schwarz is an internationally acclaimed surrealist, concept and DNA artist; her artworks have the quality of Picasso’s artworks, and many of her works stylize the aesthetic elements of Chinese traditional ink painting. “My art philosophy has been deeply influenced by Chinese traditional art as well as calligraphy. I love Chinese culture and Peking Opera.” She said. Mr. Wolf Rosenthal, a famous German journalist, commented on the above image, he said: “I am speechless, feel so sad, Ms. Sibylle, l but I definitely see tears, pain and hear crying, respectful!”
“Art Unites the People of the Earth, we are honored to have Ms. Sibylle Schwarz, a high profile, and distinguished art professor from Berlin University of the Arts, Germany to utilize her unique artistic language to express mother-like sympathy for the victims of China’s earthquake. When she sent her earthquake artworks to me, I was totally shocked. Her artistic language is very powerful, and touchy.” Said Professor Weihong Yan, the assistant professor of Chinese language, literature and culture in the Department of Humanities, Director, the Confucius Institute at Pfeiffer University, North Carolina. Professor Yan, as an advisor, is conducting Dr. Zhao Hong, *Dr. Ouyang Zhongshi’s pupil, professor of Chinese calligraphy from Capitol Normal University in Beijing, China and Ms. Sibylle Schwarz to work on an interdisciplinary academic research project exploring Chinese ancient characters and Western painting using in Sibylle Schwarz’s surrealistic drawings. The 5,000 years long tradition in China includes the six major scripts: oracle bone, bronze script, seal script, clerical script, standard script and grass script. So far they have made great progress on the project. Professor Yan has been advising Ms. Schwarz to combine the philosophy of surrealism of her art with Chinese characters to create new art forms or styles that express eastern and western aesthetic views.

闫教授与西蓓莉-舒尔茨(Sibylle Schwarz)女士目前正共同致力于研究一个跨学科课题项目“西方绘画与中国古汉字”。 中国文字在 5000 年历史的演变过程中经历了 6 种不同书 写形式:甲骨文、金文、篆书、隶书、楷书和草书。在闫教授引领之下, 首都师范大学欧阳 中石弟子赵宏教授与西蓓莉-舒尔茨(Sibylle Schwarz)女士正在合作, 将中国汉字和"六体书"书法艺术融合于舒尔茨(Sibylle Schwarz)女士的超现实主义绘画的哲学理念中, 以创造出一 种全新的艺术形式或风格来表达中西方不同的审美观念, 这项前所未有的学术研究已经取得 了很大的进展。350 幅“汉字书法—超现实主义绘画作品”将于 2013 年底在美国夏洛特历史博 物馆亮相。
西蓓莉-舒尔茨(Sibylle Schwarz)还在信中向费佛尔大学孔子学院表示, “我将通过贵院, 把我的作品赠送给孔子学院。”同时她还为孔子学院创作了一幅一笔画“孔子学院”。(图 4)
